Tinghir is an oasis town in southeastern Morocco, set between the High Atlas and the Anti-Atlas mountains at the entrance to the Todra Valley. The town is surrounded by an extensive palm grove where date palms, gardens, and small agricultural plots follow the Todra River. Its traditional earthen buildings and kasbahs rise above the greenery, creating a clear contrast with the dry mountain slopes nearby.
What sets Kaikōura apart are the extraordinary marine encounters that begin just off the shoreline. The Kaikōura Canyon, an underwater gorge that plunges to great depths close to land, creates currents rich with nutrients that attract a remarkable array of sea life year-round. Sperm whales are a common sight here and are frequently spotted on local boat tours. Dusky dolphins twist and leap in large pods, and colonies of New Zealand fur seals laze on rocky outcrops along the coast.
Beyond the historic and cultural highlights, Fremantle boasts natural attractions that are accessible and inviting. The coastline offers calm beaches such as South Beach and Bathers Beach, popular spots for swimming and relaxing. Not far from the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour, the Rottnest Island ferry departs regularly, giving visitors a chance to explore the island’s sandy beaches and meet the famously friendly quokkas.
Ankara, the capital of Turkey, sits on the Anatolian plateau and reflects the country’s layered history more quietly than Istanbul, yet with equal depth. Once an important settlement for the Hittites, Phrygians, Romans, and Byzantines, Ankara rose to national prominence in the 20th century when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk chose it as the heart of the modern Turkish Republic. Today, it functions as Turkey’s political center while preserving traces of its ancient and Ottoman past.
Kinosaki Onsen is a resort area best known for its hot springs (onsen) as well as its charming, nostalgic atmosphere: guests of the local ryokans (traditional Japanese inns) stroll between the seven public onsen wearing yukata (literally translated as "bathing cloth," a casual version of the kimono) and geta (wooden sandals). Other attractions of this quaint town include a temple appropriately named Onsenji, views from Mt Taishi accessed by a ropeway at the end of the main street, two museums, and numerous cafes serving local specialties such as snow crab, Tajima beef and onsen-boiled eggs.
